Schulwerk, a collection of teaching pieces begun in 1930 and further extended in the 1950s, is a collaboration between Orff and colleague Gunild Keetman that celebrates the primacy of rhythm and pulse in our musical makeup and shows that educational music need never be dull. This disc, the first of a series that appeared in the centennial year of Orff's birth (1995), features performers who worked with the composer during his lifetime. By Carl Orff (1895-1982) and Gunild Keetman. For Orff Instruments.
The Orff Method is a way of teaching children about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing, acting and the use of percussion instruments, (. xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels). The music is presented with an element of "play" helping the children learn at their own level of understanding. Improvisation, composition and a child's natural sense of play are encouraged. Orff-Schulwerk, Volume Two: Musik für Kinder.
Composer: Keetman, Gunild. Orff-Schulwerk: Music for Children has proved itself to be a stimulating source of material for music teaching. when children discover, invent, improvise and compose, their experience of music is intensified. Binding: Paperback/Soft Cover.
Orff-Schulwerk: Music for Children (5 volumes). The project fell into place in 1924 when Orff began teaching music courses at Dorothee Günther's new school of modern dance and movement in Munich. Orff initially focused on the use of hand clapping, foot stomping, and finger snapping along with homemade rattles and some hand drums and tambourines. The music-and-movement exercises were first published in 1930 under the title Orff-Schulwerk: Elementare Musikübung. These "elementary music works" were scheduled to be introduced into Berlin's elementary school curriculum, but the Nazi takeover and ensuing war destabilized the system and the Günther school itself was closed in 1944.
