Shout (The Isley Brothers song). Redirected from Shout (Isley Brothers song)). Shout" is a popular American song, originally recorded by the Isley Brothers. The song was only a minor hit, but has been granted immortality for its exuberance and influence. The album of the same name, the Isley Brothers' full-length debut in 1959, shows what a gulf existed between the Isleys and their old-school producers. The menu of standards and white rock & roll songs like "Rock Around the Clock" may have worked well for someone like Brook Benton, but the Isley Brothers' signature raw-edged soul is fully formed here and comes on like gangbusters.
The Isley Brothers did not consider this a song at first. It was just a "thing" they would do onstage and the crowd would go nuts. They knew they were onto something when Jackie Wilson, who they were opening for, started using the stop-and-go style in his show. They did very well, selling out many of the places they played, and released an album in 1989 called Shout. Otis Day's real name is DeWayne Jessie. In the UK, this is the song that introduced the singing sensation Lulu.
